Yahoo! comes to Android, Search, Messenger, and Mail [Update]

Yahoo! has been pretty lackluster on Android until the Backflip came out and basically enforced its will. Well that was AT&T’s doing, but still. Sometime during Wednesday evening Yahoo! put 3 brand new applications in the Android Market. Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! Messenger, and Yahoo! Mail. All 3 are available right now and can be downloaded for free. The apps are pretty basic, but nice as well. Lets briefly discuss the apps. First up is search…

The search app is exactly what you would expect. It has text search or voice search and both seem to work decent. It takes you to the m:Yahoo page which I think is actually quite nice. It is all a matter of preference. Do you like Yahoo or Google? Next up is Yahoo! Messenger.

They added a Yahoo Messenger application to the market which for some is a nice alternative to Google Talk. I have an account, but I personally do not know anyone who uses Yahoo! Messenger. I know there are a lot of people out there who will so I can say this, the interface looks pretty nice. In my opinion, the interface looks nicer then the Google Talk interface. Last but not least you have Yahoo! Mail.

Surprise surprise, Yahoo! Mail app works with WiFi! The biggest issue with adding a Yahoo! account to Android right now is that you can’t use it via WiFi. It tells you your user name and password are incorrect. The new Mail app from Yahoo! solves that problem. If you are strictly a Yahoo! mail user, I recommend getting this app. It is far and away better than the stock Mail app on Android. It is not as robust as the Gmail app, however I do think the interface looks nicer. So I highly recommend this over your default options if you are a huge Yahoo! user. Thats it folks, head over to the Android market and pick them up for yourself.
