New Kindles get announced, lighter, faster, and cheaper

For a long time the Kindle has been this device sort of in limbo. It is lacking too many features to compete with Apple’s iPad, but it was also too expensive for most to begin replacing their book collection. All that might have just changed. Shortly after Amazon reduced the price of their existing Kindle to $189.99 down form $259.99,  Amazon announced their brand new Kindle. As far as features go you are looking at the same product. However there is a lot to love about this new Kindle. For a run down of the new click on after the break…

The new Kindle is sporting a 6″ E-Ink display, is 15% lighter than the previous Kindle, is 21% smaller (same screen size still), has twice as much storage, built-in WiFi, improved fonts, faster screen refresh rate, and now comes in 2 models. Not only is it faster, lighter, nicer, and equipped with a higher storage capacity, but there is also a lower priced model. You have 4 options in total. A WiFi only model for $139.99 or a 3G + WiFi model for $189.99, both models can be had in either white or graphite. If you were on the brink of a purchase before, I see no reason not to jump on board the E-Ink ship now. The Kindle now competes directly with the Barnes and Noble Nook on price. The Kindle also has such a low entry price, it now actually makes sense if you want to purchase this for a low $139.99 instead of paying $499.99 for Apple’s iPad. The new Kindles will be available for purchase on August 27th. Start saving now if you are interested.
