T-Mobile G2 becomes official, gets some specs

T-Mobile’s very first real competitor to the iPhone came out in October of 2008. Just a few weeks before the would be 2 year anniversary of said phone (T-Mobile G1), T-Mobile is getting ready to release part 2 of its flagship device. The T-Mobile G2! It will be the first Android ‘super phone’ running stock Android with a full fledge side sliding QWERTY keyboard. We won’t lie folks, this phone looks amazing. The look of this device is just fantastic. So lets move to some of the gritty details…

Android OS 2.2 stock (comes with new Google Voice app/widget and T-Mobile Visual Voicemail)

3.7″ display (most likely 800×480 resolution Super LCD)

5MP Autofocus Camera with an LED Flash and 720p video recording

800 Mhz MSM7230 Snapdragon processor

4GB of internal storage and a replaceable 8Gb Micro SD

1300mAh battery providing 6.5 hours of talk time and 17.5 hours of standby

Size:  4.7 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches

Weight: 6.5 ounces

3.5mm headphone jack

HSPA+ Radio that supports T-Mobile’s new high speed HSPA+ network

Full 4 row side sliding keyboard

Optical trackpad

This phone is obviously on the cutting edge of ‘super phone’ technology right now. We are anxious to try out this new processor and run some benchmarks. Again, this is the first ‘super phone’ with a side sliding keyboard that runs stock Android since the Motorola Droid in November 2009. This is such a huge step up from the G1. T-Mobile says pre-orders will start later this month. That sort of corroborates a rumored September 28th release. Let’s hope T-Mobile can get it out before all of the Windows Phone 7 madness begins.

Am I the only one that’s disappointed by the specs and features of the g2? I mean my god man!!! It lacks features that “lesser” phones come with. An 800 mhz processor? I heard 2 gigs are coming out and they build this with an 800? And on top of everything, its just plain UGLY!!!
