Verizon holding a media event on Tuesday, Verizon iPhone or something else?

Verizon just made a huge showing at CES, but that doesn’t seem to be enough. Verizon has just sent out invitations to a press event they are holding this Tuesday. So what is all the hoopla about? Well if Verizon had any other phone announcements besides the iPhone, wouldn’t it have been made at their huge CES keynote? It makes perfect sense that Verizon would want to announce the iPhone separate from the rest of CES since Apple doesn’t ever make an appearance at CES. The weird thing is that usually when there is an announcement about an Apple product that has this much media attention and hype, it is usually made by Apple themselves. So if this isn’t the Verizon iPhone what else could it be? It could be that long rumored HTC Merge, it could also be (yes this is a dreamland I am in) a HTC tablet announcement. Okay who knows, we’ll wait with you and find out on Tuesday what Verizon is up to.

CES: HTC Thunderbolt is official, Verizon’s 4G response to the EVO

Today was Verizon’s turn to introduce all of the goodies coming out on its own network. One of those goodies was the new HTC Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt resembles the HTC EVO 4G in a lot of ways. The Thunderbolt is using Verizon’s brand new LTE network and is sporting one of those magic front facing cameras. With the new Skype video chat being bundled in, this device will be hard to pass up. Check out the full spec list after the break.

HTC Inspire 4G coming to AT&T, rocks the new Sense, Android 2.2, and a 4.3″ screen

So far today has been AT&T’s big day. They have already announced the worlds thinnest smartphone, the worlds most powerful, and now arguably one of the worlds most talked about. The HTC Inspire is obviously a rendition of the EVO 4G and the Desire HD. It is the Snapdragon HTC Sense 4.3″ phone we have all come to love. It is finally hitting AT&T! For those of you stuck on AT&T who have been dying for a serious iPhone competitor in the form of Sense UI and the latest version of Android, wait no more. The Inspire will launch with Android 2.2, but HTC has actually been pretty good about upgrading their high-end Sense UI phones, so I am willing to bet we will see Android 2.3 on this shortly after we see it hit the Nexus One. We basically know everything about this phone, it is similar to the EVO and Desire HD. So lets jump right into the specs shall we?

White EVO 4G to grace Sprint? Yes!

Sprint users no longer have to purchase the EVO 4G dressed up in white from Best Buy any longer. Sprint is beginning to receive these White EVO 4G handsets in corporate stores. So what are you waiting for? Go get your EVO 4G action on!

EVO Shift 4G coming from HTC?

Looks like HTC just filed for a trademark with the name “HTC EVO Shift 4G.” This is possibly a shift in two directions: 1) HTC is going into the mid market 2) this is nothing but a slider version of the EVO 4G, which would win a few hearts for sure.

Sprint: 4G hits Los Angeles on December 1st (other cities to follow soon?)

According to a Tweet on Twitter, Sprint is going to be lighting up the L.A., California scene with 4G on December 1st. In addition, I am able to personally confirm that Sprint is indeed testing 4G in Sacramento, California as well. From what I have been seeing on speed tests lately, Sprint has a huge advantage over Verizon at this point with it’s WiMax speedy service. So brace yourselves L.A., you are about to get some serious data speeds on your 4G enabled Epic or Evo handset.

Devs working on a webOS port to HTC Hero

In what might be one of the best ports ever attempted, the crew over at XDA-Dev forum are working on porting HP-Palm’s webOS to the HTC Hero. It is not surprising to see this port take place, what is surprising, is why did it take this long with all of the great hardware on the market today? I for one cannot wait to take this puppy for a test drive. If they make this a successful port/build, I might have a to put in a request for a dual-booting webOS/Android HTC EVO4G based build. Maybe HP will now hear the cries of webOS fans all over the world and give us a 4.3″ 1.2 Ghz monster with some serious ROM and RAM.

SuperOneClick: One Click Rooting for Nearly All Android Phones!

One Click Rooting for Nearly Every Android PhoneIf you have an Android phone that you want rooted, and you have Microsoft Windows, then chances are that you’re in luck! A new Windows application roots all, but seven, Android phones with a single click (To include the Captivate). Granted there was Universal Androot, but Google is already patching the exploit which Universal Androot uses to root a device.

I suppose it’s a moot point though, since SuperOneClick roots all but seven devices and 6 (EVO, Incredible, Desire, Aria, Eris, and Wildfire) of those can still be rooted through unrevoked. Read more of this post
