RIM shuts down hot mobile chat app Kik

In what was a rather unexpected move, RIM has decided to shut down Kik, the red-hot messenger app on Blackberry. RIM has given no explanation for this closure, so we can only speculate that it may have something to do with a security flaw or a competing messenger app.

[Video] Blackberry PlayBook gets a hands-on

RIM uploaded the full video of it’s new PlayBook, RIM’s take on the iPad.  It appears that Adobe’s Air is a big part of RIM’s strategy to compete with Apple’s iPad and truly brand themselves the ‘business’ tablet. Both Kevin Lynch of Adobe and Mike Lazaridis of RIM showed off the latest RIM product.

Is this the Blackberry Storm 3?

Many people try to forget the Blackberry Storm series but to me I always encourage users to try them. I had a Storm and Storm2 (on AT&T) and I never complained, I loved the big screen and Surepress took some getting used to but I became a pro at it. We don’t know where RIM is heading with the series but todays brings us a look at the possible future of the device. BerryReview received what looks to be an actual Storm 3. You can see the Trackpad in the middle but the look of it looks just like the Storm2. They also say the device will have a 3.7 inch display and 8gb internal memory as well as having a Hotspot feature built in. I am liking the look of this but why have a trackpad when the whole screen is a touchscreen itself? We can all say RIM makes some weird design choices.

Blackberry Bold 9780 shows up with OS6

Earlier today, a video came out showing the Blackberry Bold 9700 with OS6 running and being shown off. Now a couple hours later, the Blackberry Bold 9780, which is suppose to be a “refresh” of the 9700 has a video showing off OS6 on the device. As you can see, runs real fast and looks exactly like the 9700, which is why it is just a refresh. The 9780 still is not an official device yet but will presumably be a GSM device on AT&T and T-Mobile in due time.

RIM announces the Blackberry Curve 3G with OS 6 goodness

I waited to post the on the launch day of the Blackberry Torch to make it a special Blackberry day. None the less, the second Blackberry 6 was announced and it is the Blackberry Curve 3G. What makes this special from other Curves out there? I know we can all rule out the look because it looks the same as other Curves but the Blackberry runs OS 6 on 256mb of memory,  I thought Blackberry 6 phones needed 512mb though? It also has the optical trackpad, Wi-Fi, and built in GPS. Not too exciting but I am sure when the Curve is released later this month, it will be affordable. It is good that RIM is selling a high-end and low-end Blackberry 6, they are giving customers a choice. Anyone looking at this as there next Blackberry? Read more of this post

Blackberry Mystery Event August 3rd, OS 6 and Slider 9800 to be unleashed?

RIM is coming back strong, they have sent invites for a big mystery event and look at that AT&T will be there too. The event will take place in New York City and will start 11AM sharp. Is it time for the Blackberry Slider 9800 to be shown off officially? Will we get information on the rollout of Blackberry OS 6? I am pretty excited for RIM to come back strong, seeing as they have been quiet all summer.

Blackberry Bold 9780 appears once again

The Blackberry Bold 9780 was first shown off to the world couple days ago and some people had their doubts to the authenticity of it because truthfully it does look like a 9700. Now we can put those doubts to rest because Driphter overlord Willyboy6 has gotten hishands on one and shown off that indeeds has OS 6 on it as well as a memory upgrade. There are also rumors that the 9700 will not be getting a OS 6 upgrade so some of you might have no choice but to upgrade to this. Hopefully RIM can get somewhat OS 6 on current Blackberry devices even if it loses some function, think iOS 4 on iPhone 3G/3GS but running better obviously. About screen and storage after the break. Preview of the new Blackberry 6 Home Screen

This is not a leak, this is straight from the source, RIM. Today, they updated their official blog with a preview of the new Blackberry 6 home screen. They have an interview with Joey Benedek, Director of UX Research at Research In Motion® who talks about the changes and ideas that went into the new Blackberry 6 home screen. This is the first thing you see when you turn on your phone so of course this is the most important feature. The interview is a great read and also has more preview pictures of the different home screens you will be able to toggle through such as Media and also a Frequent part which has the different apps you use the most on your Blackberry. Blackberry 6 is shaping up to be a great upgrade but I still think it needs a little more sparkle to become a game changer. Couple more home screen shots after the break.

Blackberry Bold 9780 revealed

Get ready for Blackberry 6, but does that mean get ready for new Blackberry’s? I am a big fan of RIM and what they have done with the Blackberry but by the look of this “new” Blackberry, it just looks like a 9700 added on with a black bezel and OS 6. When will RIM shock us completely with a new design again like the 9670 or 9800 slider? But none the less, this new Blackberry was spotted last night and now revealed, no specs were given but obviously the OS 6 and 512mb RAM on board must be there. Anyone else excited or disappointed with this familiar looking device?
