[Guide] How to get Multitasking Enabled on iPhone 3G

Now that iOS 4 GM has been released to developers, it was only a matter of time before hackers got their hands on it. The iPhone 3G is not suppose to have multitasking attached to it due to memory issues but with a simple change of a file, you can have it up and running on your iPhone 3G.

FoneFrenzy is not responsible for any bricked or damage to your iPhone.

What you’ll need:

  • Jailbroken iPhone 3G with OS 4.0
  • Mac Only, will not work on Windows
  • OpenSSH

  1. Firstly you will need to download Fugu on your Mac machine
  2. After you have finished downloading, launch Fugu and input your iPhone’s IP and root as username in the Fugu interface.
  3. A default password screen will follow, put alpine as password.
  4. After you have gained access to your device using Fugu, click the Go T toolbar button
  5. Now type in the following path in the Go To field “/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/”
  6. Now press Go and you will be taken to a two-bar screen where one carrying your computer folders and other one showing iphone files.
  7. Now navigate to the N82AP.plist file and drag-and-drop it in the left panel to make a copy of it on your computer.
  8. Now open a Finder window by clicking its icon on the doc and also open the N82AP.plist file.
  9. Now access the capabilities of N82AP.plist by double clicking it and expand the capabilities tab.
  10. Now right click on the capabilities screen and select Add Row from the context menu.
  11. Now name the new row as Multitasking and set Boolean as it’s value type.
  12. Now re-access FUGO and drag the N82AP.plist file from the left bar to the right; select “overwrite” when prompted.
  13. Now reboot your iPhone 3G and see if all the multitasking features are enabled.

Also be on the lookout for my review of how iOS 4.0 GM runs on my iPhone 3G. I will definitely have the multitasking running on my phone to see how different it can be with it enabled.
