Update: Sprint To Get iPhone 5 In Exclusive $20 Billion Deal With Apple

In what would be a huge coup for Now Network, BGR’s Johnathan Geller confirming and Wall Street Journal’s Marketplace Editor Dennis Berman, is reporting, that the iPhone 5 will be an exclusive deal with Sprint, for $20 billion worth of iPhones over the next four years.

Sprint’s iPhone 5 will be a 4G WiMAX based device, although we think that this will be a dual band with CDMA device as well. Verizon and AT&T are expected to get the iPhone 4S this quarter but expect both companies to have LTE versions of the iPhone 5 sometime next year.

BGR is reporting that Sprint’s iPhone 5 will have:

In this scenario, the iPhone 4S Apple will introduce tomorrow will feature the following:

  • A low voltage Apple A5 CPU (it won’t be the same as the iPad 2 chip, clock for clock).
  • Updated front and back camera sensors. FaceTime HD in the front, 8 megapixel 1080p HD video recording in the back.
  • Multiband 3G Qualcomm chipset — North American & International GSM/UMTS/HSPA bands for AT&T and Global carriers, North American CDMA & International GSM/UMTS/HSPA bands for Verizon and Sprint.
  • NFC support
  • Metal or “premium” plastic on the back case.
  • Faster CPU.
  • Larger 4-inch screen, similar to LG’s NOVA display but with a higher resolution.
  • 1GB of RAM.
  • Slightly larger design overall, but thinner and with a larger battery.
  • 32GB of storage.
  • iPhone 5 exclusive software and APIs (Assistant).
  • Dedicated Assistant button, possibly integrated with the new home button, “think gestures or a two-stage button like a camera shutter key).

Apple now sold out of iPhone 4 pre-orders

As you can from the screenshot above, it looks like Apple is now sold out of iPhone 4 launch pre-orders. The shipping date for pre-ordering an iPhone 4 has now changed to July 2nd, a week after the device launches. Sprint “fixes” EVO launch day sales

Image: Nicholas Carlson

When the Spring EVO 4G launched on June 4th it was met with a lot of hype and anticipation, people were excited for the first 4G phone and everybody was saying this could better then the iPhone! But everybody says that about a new hyped phone right? Sprint was so excited about the sales that in there press release they stated:

“Friday sales of HTC EVO 4G marked the largest quantity of a single phone sold in one day ever for Sprint – the record was previously held by both Samsung InstinctTM and Palm PreTM. In addition, the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.”

Well it looks like Sprint got a little too antsy because they updated their press release yesterday with a little more emphasis on numbers:

” Sales of HTC EVO 4G marked the largest quantity of a single phone sold in one day ever for Sprint – the record was previously held by both Samsung InstinctTM and Palm PreTM. Launch day sales of HTC EVO 4G were six times greater than launch day sales of Samsung Instinct and nearly twice the launch day sales for Palm Pre. We continue to see sales of EVO 4G outpace sales of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre.

We originally reported that the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined. We inadvertently erred in the comparison. The total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.”

“We inadvertently erred in the comparison,” Sprint said in a statement on Tuesday, reported by Reuters.

So it was just little mix up on the numbers but at least Sprint corrects it and the EVO is still selling well, getting lots of great reviews, and hey, it can still say it is the only 4G phone out there.

T-Mobile retails stores opening early June 19th, MyTouch Slide will be the highlight

Via TmoNews

So we knew the MyTouch Slide was coming June 2nd, but it seems that T-Mobile is going to be putting a lot of marketing muscle behind this device. Is the MyTouch Slide going to make a big enough impact in sales at T-Mobile to warrant such a marketing campaign? It might since it is the only keyboard sliding Android device from HTC since the G1. The Cliq came out, but the Cliq has a very cheap feel and is still running Android 1.5 which came out in March of 2009. The MyTouch slide has both a nice looking keyboard and Android 2.1 running Slide UI. Also the MyTouch is Slide is rumored to be getting Android 2.2 shortly after launch. OnSaturday June 19th, T-Mobile will be opening all of its retail outlets at 8:00 AM. What is it exactly that T-Mobile has in store for its customers come Saturday June 19th? We just don’t know. The phone will already have been out for a couple of weeks.

Via Engadget

Looking at their schedule, it seems as though the marketing campaign will have already begun, the phone will be on sale and in customers hands, and everyone will by this time have read some reviews and how-to’s on this device. So what could be the ‘BIG’ news/event coming June 19th. It is killing me trying to figure this out. Trust me, we are just as eager to find out as you!
