[Video] HP’s Todd Bradley all but confirms webOS tablet only one piece of ecosystem

HP’s Tom Bradley talks with CNBC about what HP plans for their February 9th event. In his conversation, he states that “webOS tablet is only one piece of the ecosystem – one piece of that connected experience that we are going to create” and “a broad set of public announcements – and a breadth of products we are going to unveil.” You heard it directly from the horses mouth. We expect Palm to come out swinging with a multitude of products, including tablets, phones and possibly PC’s. I know that a few of here at fonefrenzy can’t wait to see what HP/Palm has in store on February 9th.

Opinion: Why the iPad might remain the king of tablets in 2011

This is the short break before it all explodes folks. We are just weeks away from the explosion of Android tablets on the market as well as the Blackberry Playbook and whatever new WebOS tablet HP has in store. The general consensus is that the iPad will of course sell well, however the Android tablet market as well as the Playbook and WebOS tablets will eat into the iOS tablet market. Essentially this would put Android on top much like it has already done in the smartphone market due to sheer number of manufacturers producing tablets. And though I am not an analyst of any kind, I want to make a prediction. My prediction is that iOS tablets (iPad 1 and iPad 2) will remain the best-selling tablets, at least through 2011. Here is why.

[Rumor] Samsung to announce Galaxy S 2 devices at MWC?

Despite the “rumor” classification, it’s a pretty safe bet to assume that Samsung will in fact be releasing the next iteration of it’s exceedingly popular Galaxy S line of smart phones at this year’s Mobile World Congress. The upgrade, according to the KoreaHerald, is expected to include the new SuperAMOLED Plus display, Google Android 2.3, and a dual-core SoC to top it all off . No word on whether this will be a dual-core version of Samsung’s sexy Hummingbird platform, or something altogether new. Hit the jump for some quotes directly from Shin Jong-kyun, alpha dog in the Samsung mobile division.

HP/Palm to hold WebOS event on February 9th

I feel like I am in dreamland when I typed out that headline. It has been just over 7 months since the merge between Palm and HP. We knew they would be working on something, we just didn’t know when. It seems as though February 9th is when they feel comfortable announcing everything they have to announce. That is fine with us, I was expecting them to wait even longer just because the time of the merge to the time of having a new product could take forever. They are ready though and it seems as though they are going to have more than just a new phone announcement. Their teaser slogan is ‘Think big, Think Small, and Think beyond’. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a Tablet, a Phone, and whatever else HP can throw WebOS on. We don’t know much, but we are very excited to see what comes to fruition. With the recent announcement of Android 3.0, soon an iPad 2 with iOS 5, and the new Blackberry Playbook, HP is going to have a tough road ahead.

WebOS tablet from HP to arrive at the beginning of 2011

HP had its earnings call today. Though we aren’t very big on numbers for companies that aren’t deeply jiving in the mobile space just yet, we are fancy for mobile product fantasies such as a WebOS tablet. At HP’s earnings call earlier today, HP reported both strong growth and dropped the already somewhat well-known bomb that a WebOS tablet will land in early 2011. WebOS on a tablet is something to drool over. It will have apps (though not nearly as many as the iPad), it will possibly have Flash 10.1 since Adobe said Palm is one of their partners, and it will be a multitasking machine. All it needs to really succeed is a fast processor, a lot of RAM, a front facing camera, and a super high-resolution screen. If they can pull this off, they will be all set for success in my opinion. We will keep our fists clinched with anticipation until the official announcement expected at CES 2011.

Samsung confirms Android Tablet, Galaxy Tab coming in the 3rd quarter

In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Samsung went on to confirm the rumored Samsung Galaxy Tab. Saying that it will come out no later than quarter 3 of this year. Right now Android tablets have been pretty lack luster. The most exciting Android tablet out now is the Dell Streak which is still running Android 1.6! So nothing too exciting. The Galaxy S is expected to run on the 1Ghz Hummingbird processor, have Android 2.1, 7″ Super AMOLED Screen, and a front facing camera. Those specs alone are pretty excited. My biggest question is the resolution. It needs to be at least as high in pixel density as the iPad, but I definitely prefer MORE! 800×480 won’t cut it on a tablet. Samsung’s Mr. Shin’s quote:

I can also say that we are planning to launch a tablet computer, named Galaxy Tab, no later than in the third quarter of this year.

JooJoo runs Windows 7, looks usable

JooJoo is the iPad’s first competitor. The problem with it is that it is only web-based and does not have any sort of application store or ecosystem like the iPad has. The device is not bad, but it could be better. So a hacker went out of his way to make it so by putting full fledge Windows 7 with multi-touch on his JooJoo. Now his JooJoo went from having access to zero native applications to now having access having millions. The user shows that it is touch enabled, multi-touched enabled, and Flash seems to run pretty smooth on the device. Have a look for yourself after the break… Read more of this post
