Samsung Galaxy S specifications leak before CTIA announcement

Samsung
Some specifications for Samsung’s forthcoming top-tier smartphone, the Galaxy S, have been leaked ahead of the planned announcement at CTIA 2010.

Details are slim, but from what we do know, the Galaxy S is looking to be a sexy little phone, rocking Android OS (PLEASE 2.1+), a 1 GHz processor, and a Super AMOLED (read: sexy) display.  Based on the way things are tending, I’d imagine it’s safe to assume Sansung’s planning on making the 1 GHz/Super AMOLED combo a standard across their product line.  Awesome.

EngadgetMobile had this to say regarding the information contained in the leaked documents;

Kicking off S Life from the hardware side will be the Galaxy S, Samsung’s big phone announcement for the week. As far as we can tell, it’ll be an Android device taking advantage of Super AMOLED and the company’s homegrown 1GHz core — and it’ll be available in the US this year.

That’s the word for now, check back later for more information regarding the Galaxy S!

UPDATE:

TouchWiz 2.0?

Samsung had an official conference today, and not much information worthy of note has been released.  Aside from the information contained above, we now know that the Galaxy S will rock a huge 4-inch “Super” OLED touchscreen (mobile Digital Natural Image engine), the same technology as found in Samsung’s top of the like OLED television models.

Unlike I had first assumed, it appears as though Samsung will not use the Snapdragon, but rather develop their own ARM-style processor.  Samsung also promises that the GAlaxy S will include “3D Maps”, whatever the hell that equates to.

Last but not least, while no word has been mentioned either way, the UI from the press shots appears to be something other than the stock flavor of Android’s Home launcher, it is possible that the Galaxy S will be touting Samsung’s TouchWiz 2.0 Home replacement.

The last little bit of information is regarding Samsung’s inclusion of “Layar Reality Browser”, which has supposedly been modified to provide a faster smartphone experience by using location-sensitive search.
