WANTED: CEO for Finland’s Nokia

Looks like Nokia’s current CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, is having a hard time trying to come up with ideas to compete with the likes of Apple and Android in the smartphone world. Nokia, which has been a leader in high end smartphone handsets, is struggling to conform to today’s device models. Not that Nokia can’t compete, but the problem is threefold:

  1. Getting new devices ready, tested and out on time
  2. Using a single OS for all their devices: Meego

The lack of focus in those three general areas have landed Nokia’s stock in the southern direction. Nokia’s New York Stock Exchange trading is off nearly 42% since April 19, a huge blow to the company. Read more of this post

Nokia Testing Movie Downloads via Ovi Store?

Nokia’s Ovi Store, an app and entertainment warehouse, may soon see full length movie downloads, allowing you to view Hollywood movies on your phone without the need for any additional third party apps. Nokia told Electric Pig that it’s testing out the entire concept of full length movies delivered via the Ovi Store to your Nokia handset. In addition, Nokia has potential connections lined up with movie studios to make it whole concept happen.

“We do have a couple of short form video clips available on store right now and we’re investigating longer form,” he told us. “I can’t confirm anything right now. I can tell you that we are investigating it. We have done a couple of pilots in some countries with some success, and you know we have great relationships with all the major studios.”

Nokia N97 rocking Windows Mobile 7 – Say What?

I love hackers. Best guys on the planet. Able to do stuff to warez and hardware that lone, mortal humans can’t fathom. Now some industrious hackers have decided to load up a Nokia N97 rocking Windows Mobile 7!

The phone only starts up but shows the Intel Atom processor running at 1100 MHz. Too bad it doesn’t show the main menu actually running all the way through.

UPDATE: it appears that the video is not of Windows Mobile 7 but Windows 7.
