Sprint releases it’s first 4G phone; HTC Evo is awesome

The wait is over ladies and gents, the long rumored 1 GHz, 4G smartphone “HTC Supersonic” is officially the HTC Evo 4G, and it’s staged to take Sprint users by storm.  Featuring a dual band operation, the HTC Evo is capable of taking advantage of Sprint’s existing EV-DO Rev. A and their fancy new WiMAX 4G network.  Hit the link for more information. HTC’s Evo 4G is a hardware descendant of HTC’s HD2, with a few aesthetic modifications here and there to distinguish between the two handsets.  Sporting a 800 x 480 4.3-inch TFT LCD, a Snapdragon QSD8650 (the CDMA version of the QSD8250 in the HD2 and the Nexus One) clocking in at 1GHz, a heafty 1GB of on board memory for application storage, 512MB of RAM, an 8MP digital camera (oh – and a 1.3MP front facing camera for all those long nights on the road), and HDMI out through se of an adapter.  The Evo is slated to run Android 2.1 with the latest version of HTC’s custom UI, “HTC Sense UI”.

While it is uncertain at this point as to exactly what kind of performance we can expect out of the pairing of 4G and HTC goodness, I can only imagine that we’ll be hearing good things from Sprint’s camp over the coming year.  If they can stick the ability for CDMA users to communicate simultaneously over 3G voice and 4G data networks, Sprint is in line to make an exciting charge into the front-lines of the mobile battlefield.
