For now, the numbers are a resounding p0wnage. Apple currently has approximately 170,000 apps in it’s App Store, for considerable increase over last year. Silicon Alley Insider has posted an interesting chart showing the number of apps available with Apple, Android, RIM and Palm. Apple currently has about 170,000 apps available, according to AppShopper.com. AppShopper typically lists more apps than Apple publicly states it has because AppShopper updates its numbers on a daily basis. Counting today, AppShopper says Apple has approved Total Apps Approved: 200,055 apps with Total Available Apps: 172,793 to download at this time. But Apple officially states that it currently has only 150,000 apps.
The second closest is Google’s Android with about 30,000. But considering Android only had 4,900 with an increase of 25,100 in one year is important. Considering Apple has had the iPhone out since 2007, Android is getting many devices on Multiple carriers in 2010 alone, including the Nexus One on all four American carriers. I would expect to see Android numbers rise here in the next year to come close to 100,000, the way the devs are working overtime to code.
