Google to Apple: We are willing to work with Adobe; Froyo 2.2 released

At the Google I/O today, a great quote was made about Adobe and Adobe’s flash on Android. It was said “It was nice of Adobe to work with us on developing Flash for Android, it was much nicer for us to work with them (Adobe) than to just say no.” Google also stated “it turns out people on the internet actually use Flash.” The speaker went on to say his daughter can’t go to her favorite website on the iPad. This surely is a huge swipe at Apple’s unwillingness to work with Adobe in developing flash for the iPhone, iPod and iPad. Google seems to think that Apple has it all wrong and they are probably correct.

[Video] Nexus One running Android Froyo 2.2; includes Flash 10.1

So we just got to have a nice look at Flash running on Android 2.2. Impressive yes, but what caught my eye was the new home-screen at the end of the video. So what is different between the two? Well for starters, the launcher, phone, and browser icons at the bottom of the screen. The launcher is a similar grid of squares just like you see in Android 2.1 on the Nexus, but next to it is a built-in phone shortcut as well as browser shortcut. This will allow you to have more icons/widgets on your home-screen. Additional space is always a win in my book.

What else is new? Well, we have a new launcher widget. As you can see in the middle of the screen there is a widget with the launcher icon and a little Android guy next to it. It says ‘To see all of your applications, touch the launcher icon’. Then if you look at the bottom right of that it says 1 of 6. I don’t know exactly what this means, but it looks exciting and fun to explore! Then at the top we have an updated Google Search widget. The difference here is a blue Google icon on the left side of the widget with an arrow pointing down. Usually the downward arrow means drop down menu or additional options, so we will have to wait and see what this ends up being. If I had to guess I would say adding additional options like Image, News, blogs, or possibly a ‘recent/history’ view. We are all super excited for Google I/O and we cannot wait to see what Google has in store for Android 2.2.

For all of those people that say they don’t need Flash within a browser, take a look at the video below. A couple of big question remain: will all most Android devices due this summer include the latest version of Android 2.2? Will the updates get pushed out to Droid and Nexus One owners right after Google’s I/O?

If not, hey, at least the updates soon enough to 2.2 gives us working Flash 10.1. Take that Apple.

[Video] Qualcomm’s 7×30 3D and multimedia Android workhorse

Can we haz one please! Santa may come early this year because Qualcomm was at MWC showing off some pretty impressive demo units of the capabilities of the Snapdragon processors equipped phones. As you’ll see in one of the videos after the break, Qualcomm’s display devices were running count them – four – videos on the same screen at the same time. Equally impressive on the demo Qualcomm MSM7x30 was a shot of a YouTube playback using Flash 10.1. Hit the link for more info and videos. Read more of this post

Flash 10.1 Performance On Android = Not So Much?

Mark Doherty from Flash Mobile Blog has posted some stunning numbers with video of the effect of Flash 10.1 on the Nexus One handset. The numbers clearly show that the effect on the phone itself is very little to none at all. Not only does the test produce the accompanying numbers, but he also managed to make produce a lengthy video on the entire process. Hit the link for more.
