Samsung shows Omnia HD some firmware love

It appears that technology giant Samsung has finally shown the Omnia some software lovin’, and it’s features list puts the “pop” in “pop-shot”.  The long touted hardware prowess of the Omnia side-lined by the staggeringly weak software support from the company.  Better late than never goes the phrase, but I can’t help but feel that the Omnia would have sold much better had these features been present in the release builds.  I’ll let you come to your own conclusions.

List of features included:

A Remote (iPhone) Controlled “Quadricopter” with AR gaming coming in 2010?

It seems like every other day I learn about a new application for this phone or that. Today is no exception, well, except that it’s not just an application that has my attention. According to TUAW and Engadget Parrot is preparing to release a remote control 4-rotor helicopter, dubbed a “quadricopter,” baring the name “Parrot AR.Drone.”

The quadricopter is contolled from an iPhone (or iTouch) using its acceleromoter, and is connected through an ad-hoc network giving it approximately a 50 meter range. There are also touch screen controls to take off, ascend/descend, and rotate.

The AR.Drone has 2 cameras, one forward looking (which sends video to the iPhone), and one downward providing the drone its equilibrium and keeping it stable (running at 60fps). The drone boasts two ultrasonic transmitters for vertical stability, a three-axis accelerometer, and a two-axis gyroscope paired with a single-axis yaw precision gyroscope for good measure.

T-Mobile’s HD2 to get Windows Phone 7?

T-Mobile opted to give the world a tease just a few days before MWC. On T-Mobile’s Twitter account, they ask, “If you think you know the HD2? Well if you think you do, think again.” So what does this all mean? Here is what we know. The HD 2 is supposed to launch on T-Mobile USA some time in March, it already has Windows Phone 6.5, and was rumored to get 6.5.3 soon. We saw the HD 2 for the States received a bit of a spec bump over the European version, so we don’t think the hardware will be too much different from what we have already seen. If T-Mobile is not refering to Windows Phone 6.5.3, could they be referring to Windows Phone 7? MWC’s Windows Phone 7 clamoring is steadily increasing and if there is any Windows Phone device with specs that can handle Windows Phone 7, it would be the HD2. We will keep our fingers crossed in hopes that this is the case. We also will continue to let everyone know what Windows Phone 7 is as it unfolds.

Microsoft calling the new Windows Mobile, ‘Windows Phone 7 Series’

Today MWC begins and Engadget has uncovered something ‘magical’. Okay maybe not magical, but significant none the less. There is a banner across the street from the event in Barcelona that says, “Windows Phone” with a white sticker over something underneath. After a little Photoshop work  to help uncover the stickers secret, it says ‘7 Series’ underneath. So it is coming folks! Unless of course that sticker wasn’t meant to come off until the end of 2010. However we are confident now is finally the time. So after the recent Windows Phone FCC leak and all the rumors of Windows Phone 7 announcements, it seems like it is finally happening. We do not know if we are just going to get a demo of the software  and UI, or if we will also see some hardware. What I can tell you is that that all of us here at FoneFrenzy are super excited to see what Microsoft has in store for us.

Amazon Mp3 Store for Android launches in the U.K

Amazon Mp3 Store launches in U.K

Amazon Mp3, which has been available in the U.S since Android’s release in October, 2008 has finally launched in the U.K. Until now, U.K Android users were limited to using “Mewbox,” which had a limited library of 4 million DRM-free tracks availble. The launch of Amazon Mp3 (10 million+ DRM-free songs) for Android puts it in direct competition with iTunes in the U.K, which also has 10 million+ (DRM-free) songs available. Just as with an iPhone, users will be able to purchase and download tracks on the go.

The Amazon Mp3 Store comes as part of the Android 2.1 update (soon to be released for the HTC G2/Hero and Magic), and is accessible now through a Nexus One. The addition of the music store in the U.K does not put Android ahead, but in fact finally puts it just on par with the iPhone in the music department. The Amazon Mp3 Store does currently lack support for video downloads, putting it just one step behind the iPhone in general media content (at least for now). Hit the link for more.
